Literary foodie event with acclaimed food writers

11.May.2012

Two of the hottest new names in food literature are coming to the Greene Room in Berkhamsted to talk about their latest recipe books in an evening of food, drink and recipe inspiration on Wednesday 13th June. William Sitwell, editor of Waitrose Kitchen magazine and co-host of the BBC2 series ‘A Question of Taste’, who has just launched his first book, A History of Food in 100 Recipes, will be joined by Tom Moggach, who will talk about his new release The Urban Kitchen Gardener: Growing & Cooking in the City. During the evening, Kings Arms chefs will be cooking up a selection of tasting platters using recipes from both books, as well as a welcome cocktail made using one of the published cocktail recipes from Tom Moggach’s book, providing culinary inspiration for guests. William Sitwell’s A History of Food in 100 Recipes tells the definitive story of the people, ingredients and techniques that have shaped our love of food, with sharp observational wit of a fascinating journey of the culinary landscape. He has already been acclaimed by The Independent for his originality:  “There is no shortage of food histories and even less of recipe books, but a hybrid of the two is something new. William Sitwell tackles this mammoth project with energy and wit.” Marco Pierre White also stated that “Sitwell is without doubt one of the great food writers of our day. Every serious cook should read this book at least once.” Tom Moggach is a gardener, food writer and teacher, and has written for publications including the Guardian, Daily Telegraph and Financial Times. In The Urban Kitchen Gardener, he provides a unique insight into growing your own produce in the city, with some imaginative recipes featuring unusual ingredients. He selects the top edible plants for city plots, from chillies and strawberries to the less familiar Japanese shiso and Mexican mouse melons.  This event is a must for all foodies with the opportunity to hear about the inspiration and gastronomic poetry behind two of Britain’s most acclaimed food writers. Signed copies of both books will also be available to purchase on the evening. Entry is ticket only – complimentary tickets are available from the Kings Arms in advance with limited availability.
